As We…Breathe

As simple as breathing
I’m thanking God for saving me
And it’s a routine thing,
As simple as breathing
As simple as thinking
Planning for what I have to get done
I’m thanking God for being with me
Planning for what I have to get done

As simple as closed eyes
I’m thanking God for cleansing me
As simple as closed eyes,
closed eyes, no need to see
Watching a child grow
As simple as watching my life move on
As simple as gazing into empty rooms
A childhood home
I’m thanking God for what wasn’t simple
Died to make this flesh his temple
As if it was a simple thing to save
and graciously grant me life
Life
The one thing that comes free
No debt to eternity
As simple as breathing
I’m thanking God for saving me

But it’s a simple routine thing
Praying repetitiously
Without penetrating the heart,
or stabbing into a pure mind
Like leaving an empty milk cart
Save the meat for those who have time

What is life?
I simply inhale and deeply breathe
What I don’t have to fight for…air, Free
But I’m not writing of air
But what I don’t have to breathe
Hadn’t my Lord choose to say,
“Let your will be”

Didn’t come to do what was simple,
But what was most difficult
Cause only he could perform
What no human has done before
To keep holy, what is holy,
So his flesh was torn
That I could escape death
And breathe life reborn
That I might be transformed
Now all I have to do is ask, ask believing
As simple as…breathing

This is Life…Christ breathing
“Your will be done.”
If nothing else can reverse sin,
I’ll drink from this cup.
Though I bleed before
my holy flesh has been torn
“Father, your will be done
so that she can simply breathe, life reborn.
I’ll take in the Hell that had no end
The fate she was to breathe in.”
A new life, reborn

I’m experiencing a life that is so real
As real as the skin I wear
When I should be, when I could be
Experiencing what was fair
Deeply inhaling a flame
Burning in endless pain
As real as the air I breathe

Will Hell be the air we breathe?
Entrapped within it’s impenetrable walls
A crucifixion eternal as God
And God can justifiably clothe me in this,
Are you getting this?
It’s well deserved.
Even still though Jesus came and served
Us grace and mercy, well undeserved

He said “Let your will be done.”
And God’s will is as real as anyone’s
Like money being yo number one
Like sin you leave on rerun
Like culture being your top gun

Justice for humanity
You think too painful to breath
To hateful for you to believe
Will truth bow to your mere man mentality?

Justice!
Is what I don’t want to breathe
So this time, this thank you isn’t just routine
This thank you comes with me picking up
The cross you left me
Because you gave me the gift to not just breathe
But breathe… you and your love for me
To breathe like you, your suffering
For the lost, the dead, the guilty, the hurting
So that others may simply breathe
new life and holy freedom
As heir to a heavenly kingdom
As real as…you, our Savior, Jesus
We don’t deserve it, but lead us
As we…breathe
